I’m an associate professor in the Department of Urban Affairs and Geography with a joint appointment in the Department of History at Wright State University. My own research examines the connections between memory, place, family, and community. I am concerned as well with the potential and impact of new media on the humanities, higher education, cultural organizations, and community. I am the author of Six Generations Here . . . A Farm Family Remembers and Hunting for Everyday History: a Field Guide for Teachers as well as several journal articles and reviews. I was co-curator of the Wisconsin Historical Society exhibit, Six Generations Here . . . A Family Remembers as well as a writer and producer on various radio and video documentary projects. I taught History and American Studies at Miami University for ten years and then directed the graduate program in Public History at Wright State University for seven years.

I am the editor of the Oral History Association’s Web site, oralhistory.org and a member of the OHA Council. I serve on the board and executive committee of Cityfolk, a traditional and ethnic arts presenting organization in Dayton, Ohio and on the Ohio Arts Council’s Traditional Arts Advisory Committee. I serve on the board and chair the program committee for the Ohio Humanities Council. At Wright State University, I chair the AAUP Committee W and serve on both the university and the College of Liberal Arts’ Service Learning-Civic Engagement Committees. I serve on the ad hoc committee to create a Digital Commons at Wright State University and I contribute on the WSU Digital Humanities Forum with my colleague from the Department of English, Jane Blakelock and others. I am an affiliate faculty member in both Humanities and Women’s Studies. At Wright State University, I have co-directed, among other projects, two Teaching American History grant projects with the Dayton Public Schools and the Montgomery County Educational Services Center. I am also the co-faculty advisor to the American Humanics/Nonprofit Leadership Alliance student organization.
