Youth and Community Engagement Minor Coming in Fall 2012!
The mission of the Youth and Community Engagement Minor is to offer undergraduate students opportunities to both theorize about the the meaning and value of service and community engaged learning and to gain experience in work with young people on community change, civic engagement, and social justice within schools and community organizations. Young people want to change the world; through this minor Wright State University students will learn to shape opportunities where youth will work with people of all ages to meet challenges and solve problems. University students, faculty, youth, and community partners will learn from each other the meaning of citizenship and democracy.
“The most important lessons of democracy come from doing public work and finding ways to cooperate with people who are different and may disagree. We learn from each other when we solve problems together. This is the kind of politics that everyone can do, not just politicians.” Public Achievement
The Youth and Community Engagement Minor is open to students in all majors and colleges. We envision courses where students work with faculty and community partners, draw upon theory and practice, and embrace community based learning experiences.
